YMCA of the Palm Beaches Helps Under-supported Young Adults Build Stability Through New ‘Healthy Connections” Program

Healthy Connections Coordinator, Zachary Lipson, with a program participant

The YMCA of the Palm Beaches is helping at-risk young adults build stability and independence through its new ‘Healthy Connections’ program, based at the organization’s Lake Worth location. Launched in late 2025, the pilot program serves more than 50 young adults ages 18 to 25 whose full potential may be limited by circumstances beyond their control.

Participants in the program include those aging out of foster care, experiencing homelessness, or struggling to find employment. Others are recovering from substance use, reentering the community after incarceration, living with disabilities, facing financial hardship, or working to find post-secondary educational opportunities. Healthy Connections provides full YMCA membership and is grounded in the belief that guided support and consistent wellness routines create structure, confidence, and a clear path forward, and as these routines are built, confidence and moving toward a stable future can be achieved.

“When young adults have guidance, mentors, and a supportive environment, they begin to see what is possible and take ownership of their future,” said Zachary Lipson, Healthy Connections Coordinator for YMCA of the Palm Beaches. “This unique program has already made a meaningful difference, and we are incredibly optimistic about its lasting impact.”

Healthy Connections centers on personalized wellness coaching, with participants visiting the YMCA multiple times per week for individualized support. Participants are also connected to specialized resources that focus on career readiness, education, mentorship, job training, mental health services, and transportation. Additionally, essentials like clothing, shoes, and hygiene items are provided at no cost to reduce barriers and support long-term success.

The positive impact has already been clear. A 19-year-old who was previously homeless now has housing support, is re-enrolled in high school, and is building a career path. Another young adult entered without a job, resume, or direction and is now employed, earning multiple sources of income while pursuing cybersecurity studies at Florida Atlantic University.

“What I see every day in these young adults is transformation, said Jeff DeMario of Vita Nova, a Healthy Connections program partner. “They walk through our doors carrying the weight of the world, and over time, they begin to realize they’re capable of more than they ever thought possible.”

By combining personalized coaching with wraparound support and community partnerships, Healthy Connections provides a clear path forward, often giving participants their first real opportunity to build a stable, independent future.

Florida Mentoring Network is another program partner. Tom Rivera, Florida Mentoring Network CEO said, “When you invest in a young person’s life with a program like this, you’re not just changing their story. You’re changing the story of an entire community.”

International Polo Tour® Team USA Fires Up Ecuador During IPT BUGGATTI World Cup Invitational

The International Polo Tour® (IPT) is returning home following a powerhouse match in Ecuador as part of the 2026 IPT BUGGATTI World Cup Invitational, one that continued to keep attendees guessing who would win until the final on-screen seconds.
In a day that dominated attention at the breathtaking La Palma Resort & Polo Club in Puembo, Ecuador, the IPT’s Team USA (represented by Tareq Salahi serving as Team Captain, alongside Nizar Zakka, Marcos Bignoli, and Shawn Roberts) fought valiantly against their Ecuadorian rivals, with Ecuador scoring the final victory point in the last minute of the match. Ending at 6-5, the invitational, which had an audience in the thousands, highlighted the true importance of sportsmanship, community, culture, celebration, and, above all, a shared love for polo.
“The IPT Buggatti World Cup was a remarkable showcase of international polo at its finest,” said Tareq Salahi, Chairman of the Board of the International Polo Tour® & Hotels & Resorts at Sea®. “Our team is proud to have been part of such an incredible event and to share the field with outstanding players representing Ecuador. What we take home with us is a tremendous sense of pride, lasting friendships, and deep appreciation for the hospitality, sportsmanship, and unforgettable memories that made this event truly special.”
Ending its 5th year, 2026’s invitational was presented by OUI Producciones with the International Polo Tour® and Hotels at Sea® Luxury Cruises, reflecting the refined lifestyle, innovation, and international prestige associated with the BUGGATTI brand with the sport of polo.
Additional major partners included Diners Club, Mazda, Monster Energy, JW Marriott Hotels, and Air Europa (SkyTeam partner with Delta Air Lines), with many sponsors sharing contributions via social media platforms to truly enhance exposure.
Following the event’s matches, the entire Team USA roster was recognized on both the trophy presentation stage and the main concert stage, with a spectacular performance by international recording artist Joey Montana closing out the night.
“We are incredibly grateful to our Ecuadorian hosts for creating such a spectacular event and for their warm hospitality throughout the week,” said Tareq Salahi, Chairman of the Board of the International Polo Tour® & Hotels & Resorts at Sea®. “A special thank you goes to both La Palma Polo Resort and Juan Francisco Ortega and the entire OUI Producciones team for their vision, dedication, and commitment to producing a truly world-class experience.
This event was about far more than polo—it was a celebration of friendship, culture, sportsmanship, and the enduring relationship between Ecuador and the United States. As America approaches its 250th Anniversary, it was especially meaningful to celebrate alongside a nation that has shared nearly 200 years of friendship and partnership with the United States. We look forward to many more years of peace, respect, and collaboration between our two countries.”
The IPT Hotels at Sea Polo Team will be competing next at Morven Park in Leesburg, Virginia this Saturday evening and then the IPT Team USA Polo team will be competing in the Four Nations Cup Finals, where the IPT Team USA will be competing against Pakistan, India, and the United Kingdom.

Homeless Coalition of Palm Beach County Announces Highly Anticipated 2026 Mayor’s Ball

Mayors Ball 2026

The Homeless Coalition of Palm Beach County has officially announced the details for The Mayors’ Ball, one of the community’s most anticipated philanthropic evenings, taking place August 29, 2026 at PGA National Resort & Spa.

This year’s event, themed Boots & Bourbon, will bring together Palm Beach County’s philanthropic, business, civic, and community leaders for an unforgettable evening celebrating compassion, resilience, and the collective power of a community coming together with purpose.

Blending refined western elegance with elevated hospitality and meaningful storytelling, the evening is designed to capture the warmth, strength, and spirit that continue to define Palm Beach County at its very best. Guests will enjoy curated dining experiences, an exclusive bourbon tasting, immersive moments including a hat pyrography station, fun photo spots, music by country music artist Jordan Oaks, and a dynamic auction experience, along with thoughtfully designed touches throughout the evening, all while supporting critical initiatives focused on housing stability and vulnerable residents across the region.

“At a time when housing instability continues to affect families, seniors, veterans, and working individuals throughout our community, this evening serves as a reminder that behind every statistic is a human being, a family, a story, and a future,” said Alexandria Ayala-Long, CEO of the Homeless Coalition of Palm Beach County.

More than a fundraiser, The Mayors’ Ball has become a meaningful gathering point for individuals and organizations committed to strengthening the future of Palm Beach County through compassion, collaboration, and action.

“The Mayors’ Ball remains important because it represents something much bigger than a single evening,” added Ayala-Long. “It sparks conversation, awareness, generosity, and action — while proving year after year that meaningful change is driven not by any one individual, but by a compassionate community willing to come together and support those who need it most.”

Proceeds from Boots & Bourbon will directly support initiatives focused on housing stability, supportive services, coordinated care, and long-term solutions for vulnerable residents throughout Palm Beach County. The evening will also honor the advocates, volunteers, donors, service providers, and neighbors who continue showing up for the community every day.

Community Partners of South Florida (CPSFL), in partnership with the Lake Worth Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (LWBCRA), successfully hosted its annual Housing Fair on June 6, 2026, at Hatch 1121.

The free family-friendly event drew an enthusiastic crowd of approximately 50 to 60 attendees looking to build the tools necessary to achieve the dream of homeownership.

The fair provided a comprehensive, one-stop shop for prospective buyers, featuring an impressive lineup of industry vendors. Attendees had the opportunity to connect directly with experts from six major banking institutions, VanDyk Mortgage Corporation, Century 21 Real Estate, the Community Land Trust, and Habitat for Humanity.

Alongside invaluable homebuying, budgeting, and pre-purchasing information, families enjoyed food trucks, raffle prizes, and kids’ entertainment, including face painting.

The success of the event was made possible through the generous support of its major sponsors: Fifth Third Bank, First Horizon Bank, and the Lake Worth Beach CRA for generously providing their vibrant cultural building, Hatch 1121, as the host site for the day.

“We are grateful to our partners, sponsors, and residents who came out to make this housing fair a success,” said Kelly Powell, CEO of Community Partners of South Florida. “Seeing families take tangible steps toward homeownership reinforces why we do this work. This event underscores our commitment to comprehensive community development and by strategically investing in people, places, and systems, we are ensuring that our neighborhoods and residents can thrive for generations to come.”

New VR Experiences Bring Napoleon and Ancient Rome to South Florida

Napoleon Experience at the New PBS Virtual Reality Experience in South Florida

BOYNTON BEACH, FL — This summer, South Florida PBS is redefining what it means to experience history. Beginning May 22, the region’s largest public media company invites audiences to strap in and step back in time with two landmark virtual reality experiences: Napoleon: The Immersive Saga and Colosseum: The Legendary Arena — opening at the Cornelia T. Bailey Cultural Arts Center at South Florida PBS Studios in Boynton Beach.

These are not exhibits you walk through. They are worlds you enter. Powered by cutting-edge VR headset technology, 360-degree environments, and cinematic storytelling, both experiences place guests squarely inside two of history’s most defining eras — free-roaming, fully immersed, and part of the story.

Napoleon Virtual Reality Experience
Napoleon Virtual Reality Experience

Napoleon: The Immersive Saga

The VR journey begins with Napoleon’s own voice. After a cinematic pre-show tracing his rise from childhood to Emperor of France, and a museum-style gallery featuring replica artifacts — military uniforms, weapons, and Josephine Bonaparte’s royal gown— guests don VR headsets and are transported to 1817 on the island of Saint Helena. From there, Napoleon himself guides them through the pivotal moments that shaped his legend: the strategic tension of a war council before the Battle of Austerlitz, the thunder of cavalry charges, and the harrowing retreat at Berezina. It is history at its most visceral — lived, not learned.

Colosseum: The Legendary Arena

COLOSSEUM Experience
Colosseum Experience

In this powerful 30-minute roaming VR experience, guests are dropped into ancient Rome at the height of its empire. Following the journey of famed gladiator Flamma, visitors step into the arena before a roaring crowd of 50,000 to 80,000 spectators. The experience goes beyond the spectacle — taking guests beneath the Colosseum floor to explore the hidden world of gladiatorial life, its discipline, danger, and drama. Paired with a 3D Colosseum replica, life-size gladiator helmet recreation, and an ancient Roman coin collection, the experience blurs the line between museum and time machine.

A New Frontier for Cultural Entertainment
Together, these two VR experiences mark a bold new chapter for South Florida PBS — one where public media meets immersive innovation, and where education becomes an adventure. Designed for history enthusiasts, families, and curious explorers of all ages, both experiences run through September 30, 2026.

IMG 4924

Community Partners of South Florida (CPSFL) celebrated the culmination of Neighborworks Week 2026 with a property beautification initiative at The Village, a supportive housing community located in West Palm Beach.

This collaborative effort brought together dedicated corporate partners, civic volunteers, and organization leadership to refresh the campus, enhancing the living environment for residents navigating paths toward long-term recovery and housing stability.

The Village is a 20-unit supportive housing facility, providing independent living, intensive case management, and wrap-around mental health services for up to 35 single adults working to overcome housing adversity.

Demonstrating a shared commitment to community transformation, corporate and civic volunteers spent the day executing essential physical enhancements. The dedicated workforce assisted with mulching planting beds to revitalize the campus grounds and painting.

The initiative was driven by the generosity of corporate partners and organization leaders who lent both their time and resources, including Bank of America, Valley Bank, The Breakers, the CPSFL Development Committee, CPSFL senior leadership and Charles Rollo who supported the initiative by donating supplies.

On May 30, 2026, family, friends, and community members gathered to honor Vietnam veteran, Steve Nelson during a special flagpole dedication ceremony. The handcrafted oak flagpole was donated by the American Heroes Flagpoles Foundation in recognition of Steve’s distinguished military service and sacrifice. The ceremony celebrated not only his service during the Vietnam war but also his courage in facing ongoing health challenges resulting from Agent Orange exposure.

Steve served with A Troop, 7th Squadron, 17th Air Cavalry in Vietnam’s Central Highlands from 1969-1970. During his service, he was awarded some of the nation’s highest military honors, including the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Hearts, and multiple Air Medals. The flagpole now stands as a lasting tribute to Steve’s service and to the sacrifices made by all American veterans.

“We are incredibly grateful for this honor and for the support of our community” said Steve Nelson. “This flagpole represents not only my service but the service and sacrifice of all veterans who answered our nation’s call”

The American Heroes Flagpoles Foundation’s generous donation made the ceremony possible and provided a meaningful way to recognize a veteran whose service and sacrifice continue long after his military career ended.

Luxury Real Estate: Inside Wellington’s Dream Equestrian Estates with Darlene Streit

Darlene.Streit

Wellington, of course, has long been known as the winter capital of equestrian sport – drawing elite riders, owners, and enthusiasts from around the globe. Today, however, it’s attracting a much broader and diverse group of affluent residents who may never own a horse. Buyers from across the United States and around the world are discovering a destination that combines luxury living, outdoor recreation, privacy, and convenient access to Palm Beach County’s cultural and social offerings. That destination is our beautiful Wellington.

While the equestrian lifestyle remains a defining part of Wellington’s identity, many of today’s buyers arrive for reasons that extend well beyond the show grounds. Year-round sunshine, golf and country club communities, wellness-focused amenities, and a family-friendly atmosphere have helped transform our verdant village into a sought-after destination for both seasonal residents and those seeking a primary home. Its proximity to Palm Beach’s dining, shopping, and cultural attractions only adds to its appeal.

According to luxury real estate broker Darlene Streit, the profile of the typical luxury buyer has evolved significantly in recent years.

DARLENE STREIT realtor South Florida luxury homes wellington FL

“Ten years ago, many luxury buyers came primarily for the equestrian season and discovered Wellingtons appeal,” says Streit. “Today, buyers are increasingly motivated by lifestyle, privacy, wellness, tax considerations, and access to the broader Palm Beach County luxury market.”

A Senior Global Real Estate Advisor with The Corcoran Group in Palm Beach, Streit says the profile of South Florida buyers and her private clients has shifted in the past few years. Entrepreneurs, finance executives, and remote business owners are increasingly choosing Wellington both for its lifestyle and convenience. The community is also seeing interest from family office principals and international buyers seeking privacy, security, and access to South Florida’s luxury market. At the same time, retirees relocating from higher-tax states continue to view Wellington as an appealing long-term destination. Together, these groups are helping reshape the profile of the modern Wellington luxury buyer.

As buyer preferences have shifted, so has demand for certain types of properties. Larger estates, guest accommodations, and dedicated home office space have become increasingly important. Buyers are also placing greater value on wellness amenities, resort-style outdoor living, and the privacy and security that luxury communities can provide. Many are seeking homes that can comfortably accommodate multi-generational living while supporting a year-round lifestyle.

Wellington is where weve chosen to live, and our family has been in the Wellington and the Palm Beach area for well over 40 years,” continues Darlene Streit. “The lifestyle here, the excellent schools, the amenities and community, make it a perfect place for anyone who cherishes a balanced mix of relaxed living with all the diverse activities that Wellington offers, both during the high season and off.”

“Many of my clients and ultra luxury buyers in general value privacy as much as they value acquiring the property itself,” says Streit. “Some of the most significant real estate opportunities take place through trusted relationships and discrete private networks now, rather than traditional marketing channels.”

Wellington’s appeal has also expanded significantly internationally. Traditional buyers from the Northeast and California continue to be active, while interest from Canada, Europe, and Latin America remains strong and continues to grow. The area’s reputation for stability, quality of life, and year-round recreation continues to resonate with buyers seeking a luxury destination that offers both lifestyle and long-term value.

As buyer profiles have diversified, so have transaction strategies. Streit notes that many affluent buyers and sellers increasingly value discretion, leading to a growing number of luxury transactions taking place through private networks and off-market opportunities.

As one of the top agents in the country, Darlene Streit has seen over 25 years of market shifts, identifying trends before they land, and advising her buyers and sellers to make the best decisions possible. While Darlene calls Wellington home, she is based in Corcorans Palm Beach office and serves all of South Florida – from the Palm Beaches to Jupiter, Delray, and beyond. Shes watched the changes and continues to see a rise in her own clientele as it expands internationally and grows in private, off market sales.

As Wellington continues to evolve, its appeal extends far beyond its equestrian roots. What was once viewed primarily as a seasonal destination has become a year-round luxury community attracting discerning buyers from around the world. Increasingly, they are investing not only in real estate, but in a lifestyle defined by space, privacy, recreation, and long-term value.
