On May 30, 2026, family, friends, and community members gathered to honor Vietnam veteran, Steve Nelson during a special flagpole dedication ceremony. The handcrafted oak flagpole was donated by the American Heroes Flagpoles Foundation in recognition of Steve’s distinguished military service and sacrifice. The ceremony celebrated not only his service during the Vietnam war but also his courage in facing ongoing health challenges resulting from Agent Orange exposure.

Steve served with A Troop, 7th Squadron, 17th Air Cavalry in Vietnam’s Central Highlands from 1969-1970. During his service, he was awarded some of the nation’s highest military honors, including the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Hearts, and multiple Air Medals. The flagpole now stands as a lasting tribute to Steve’s service and to the sacrifices made by all American veterans.
“We are incredibly grateful for this honor and for the support of our community” said Steve Nelson. “This flagpole represents not only my service but the service and sacrifice of all veterans who answered our nation’s call”
The American Heroes Flagpoles Foundation’s generous donation made the ceremony possible and provided a meaningful way to recognize a veteran whose service and sacrifice continue long after his military career ended.
