Why Human Connection May Become the Ultimate Luxury

Written By Maggi Rosenberg | SOR Entertainment

We often associate luxury events with beautiful venues, exceptional food, spectacular floral design and premium entertainment.

Those things still matter. But I believe another form of luxury is emerging: undivided human attention. Think about how rare that has become.

We work on screens. Communicate through screens. Shop through screens. Entertain ourselves through screens. Even when we’re together, we’re often looking at screens.

That changes the role of a live event. A successful event now has the opportunity to provide something people cannot download: presence.

A performer can read a room. A musician can feel when an audience is ready to move. A comedian recognizes when a joke lands. A dancer can make eye contact with someone in the audience. A host can sense when the energy needs to change.

Those tiny human adjustments are extraordinarily powerful. They tell the guest: You are here, and this is happening now.

As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly capable, I don’t think human performers become less important. I believe they become more valuable.

Technology can help us design extraordinary environments. It can personalize experiences and remove friction from events. But technology should create more room for human connection—not less.

For luxury planners, brands and event producers, that creates an interesting challenge.

Instead of asking, “How much can we put into this event?” perhaps we should ask: “How much genuine connection can we create?”

A beautifully designed dinner for 40 people may create more impact than a generic reception for 400. A musician performing ten feet from an audience may create more emotion than an enormous video wall. A performer remembering a guest’s name may become the moment that person remembers most.

Luxury has always been associated with scarcity.

In our increasingly automated world, genuine human interaction may become one of the scarcest experiences of all.
