The Okeeheelee Braves 6U All-Stars have accomplished something truly special, bringing home the organization’s first State Championship title since 2020. What makes this achievement even more impressive is the journey that led them there—a season built on hard work, dedication, teamwork, and an unwavering commitment to improving every single day.
From the moment All-Star season began, the Braves set a standard for themselves that went beyond simply winning baseball games. Coaches and players alike committed to putting in the work both on and off the field. Leading the way were coaches Jeff Guilbe, Ryan Merz, Rashawn Hodge, and Chris Duntz, who volunteered countless hours of their time planning practices, teaching fundamentals, developing players, and building a culture centered on accountability, discipline, and teamwork. Their dedication has been instrumental in transforming this talented group of young athletes into champions.
The team’s motto, “Defense Wins Games,” has been the driving force behind their success. The Braves have taken tremendous pride in their defensive play. Through endless repetitions and attention to detail, these young players learned that every out matters and every play can change the course of a game. Their commitment to defensive excellence has become one of the defining characteristics of this championship team.
The Braves’ preparation extends far beyond game day. The team spends time working on situational baseball, fielding fundamentals, hitting mechanics, base running, and game awareness. Coaches also emphasize the importance of fueling their bodies properly, staying active, and improving agility. These lessons have helped players understand that success comes from preparation, consistency, and effort.
Since the start of All-Stars in May, the Braves have captured three tournament championships, the District 16 Championship, and the State Championship, all while remaining undefeated. Their ability to consistently perform under pressure demonstrates not only their talent but also the preparation and discipline that have become hallmarks of the program.

What truly separates this team, however, is the bond they share. These young athletes genuinely love the game and embrace every opportunity to compete. They crave the clay, look forward to practice, and play with passion every time they take the field. The Braves have created a culture where players constantly lift each other up, celebrate each other’s victories, and grow together through challenges.
Behind the scenes, an incredible support system has helped make this run possible. Dugout Assistant Aldo De Leon has been a valuable part of the team’s game-day success. The team’s dedicated support staff—Erika Guilbe, Lena Jones, and Tessa Hodge—have served as the heart of the organization, handling countless responsibilities and providing the support, organization, and encouragement that keep everything running smoothly.
The Braves would also like to recognize Okeeheelee Baseball President Phil Baker and Vice President Gretchen Nunez, whose leadership and dedication to youth baseball have helped create an environment where young athletes can thrive and achieve success.
As State Champions, the Okeeheelee Braves 6U All-Stars have already made their community proud. Their undefeated run and historic accomplishment will be remembered for years to come. But this group isn’t finished yet. With Regionals on the horizon this July, the Braves are eager to continue their journey, represent Okeeheelee with pride, and show everyone what can happen when hard work, teamwork, and heart come together.

Quote from Okeeheelee Baseball President (can be shortened for use in article) – “Okeeheelee has had many incredible Tball A teams during my time at Okeeheelee. The last Tball State Championship was won in 2020. The Okeeheelee Braves winning in 2026 was a remarkable accomplishment for the players, coaches, families and our organization! We are so proud of all the time, effort, hard work, and support that was put into building a Championship team. The future is very bright for our young champions!” – Phil Baker
