Four Sparrows Mahjong, a fresh and welcoming destination for mahjong lovers and newcomers alike, is set to open September 16, 2026, at 328 Plaza Real in Mizner Park, bringing together the game, a curated boutique, and a little South Florida style under one roof.
Four Sparrows Mahjong is a boutique and open play space, offering open tables for those who want to join a game, classes for those looking to learn or sharpen their skills, and private space for mahjong events.
Four Sparrows was founded by four sisters, Andrea Reid, Michelle McGovern, Cristina Crenshaw and Danielle Catsman, whose love of mahjong grew from playing with their mother, Arlene Oyola, around her kitchen table. What began as time together as a family became something the sisters wanted to share with a larger community.
“Mahjong has this wonderful way of bringing people together,” said Reid, a local family law attorney and one of Four Sparrows’ four co-founders. “You sit down to play, but before long you’re talking, laughing and making memories. We wanted to create a place that captures that feeling, somewhere beautiful and fun but also relaxed enough that anyone can walk in and feel welcome.”
That spirit is at the heart of Four Sparrows.
Boca Raton has long been home to a deep and devoted mahjong community, women who have played together for decades, passing the game down through mothers, daughters and generations of friends. Alongside them is a new wave of players discovering mahjong for the first time and falling in love with it just as quickly. Four Sparrows was built to give both groups, and everyone in between, a place of their own.
The new Mizner Park destination will offer classes for players looking to learn or sharpen their skills, open play for those ready to grab a seat at the table, and private space for private mahjong events, including birthdays, celebrations, and other occasions.
And because the mahjong table has become as much about personal style as play, Four Sparrows will also feature a curated boutique stocked with the latest mahjong accessories, including tiles, racks, mats and other game-day favorites.
The goal, the sisters say, is simple: create a place where there is room at the table for everyone.
“Some people will come because they already love mahjong, and others may come because they’re curious and want to learn,” Reid added. “Either way, we want them to leave feeling like they found their place.”
