Riviera Beach, FL — April 25, 2026  In celebration of National Poetry Month, community leaders, educators, and artists will come together for the 4th Annual National Poetry Month Youth Summit, a transformative, free event designed to empower middle and high school students through spoken word, creative writing, and self-expression.
Hosted at the Riviera Beach Marina from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the Youth Summit will welcome students from across Palm Beach County for a day of immersive workshops, live performances, and scholarship opportunities, all centered around the power of literacy and voice.
Founded by community leader and advocate Desiree Reavis, the summit was created to provide young people with a safe and inspiring platform to share their stories, build confidence, and explore poetry as a positive mental health outlet.
“National Poetry Month is about more than poetry, it’s about giving young people a voice,” said Reavis. “This summit creates a space where students feel seen, heard, and empowered to turn their experiences into something powerful. We are not just teaching writing, we are building confidence, leadership, and community.”
A Day of Inspiration, Expression, and Opportunity
The Youth Summit will feature:
- Interactive creative writing and spoken word workshops led by professional poets and educators
- Public speaking and performance coaching to help students build confidence on stage
- Live youth poetry competition with scholarship awards:
- 1st Place: $1,500
- 2nd Place: $1,000
- 3rd Place: $500
- Free lunch, giveaways, journals, and event t-shirts for all student participants
- Live entertainment by Digital Vibez, promoting movement, energy, and community connection
- Access to local nonprofit organizations offering free resources for youth and families
From 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, programming is dedicated exclusively to registered middle and high school students. Beginning at 12:00 PM, the event opens to the public, inviting families and community members to experience the youth poetry competition and connect with local organizations.
Addressing Youth Mental Health Through Creative Expression
At a time when youth mental health challenges continue to rise, the summit provides a critical outlet for self-expression, reflection, and healing. Through poetry, students are encouraged to process emotions, share their stories, and connect with others in a supportive environment.
“Poetry gives students permission to feel, to reflect, and to speak,” Reavis added. “For many of them, this is the first time they realize their voice matters, and that realization can change everything.”
Community Impact and Growing Momentum
Now in its fourth year, the National Poetry Month Youth Summit has grown into a recognized community movement, drawing support from local leaders, educators, and sponsors committed to youth empowerment and literacy.
The event has previously received official proclamations from state and local leaders, highlighting its impact on education, mental wellness, and community engagement across Palm Beach County.
